Installation Instructions for XPCOM 1.4
Welcome to XPCOM Version 1.4. This program is self installing to
simplify the process.
Be sure you have the following information before starting
installation.
TNC
TNC Com port (1,2,3 or 4)
TNC Baud Rate (9600 preferred)
TNC Parity ( normally none)
TNC Stop Bits ( normally 1)
Printer
Printer Port: LPT1 to LPT3
To install XPCOM Version 1.4, use the following steps.
1. Log onto the drive containing the XPCOM
installation program INSTALL.EXE
Example Type 'A:' and press the enter key.
2. Type INSTALL and press the enter key.
3. You will now be asked to confirm the continuation
of the installation process. Press Y to continue
or N to exit the installation program.
4. Type the letter of the drive that you want XPCOM
installed to.
Example type 'C' and press enter.
5. You will now be asked to confirm the installation.
Press 'Y' to continue or 'N' to abort.
All necessary directories will be created and files
unpacked into their program directories.
6. Continue to program installation.
Program Configuration
1. After the files have been copied, you will be placed in
the files directories screen of XPCOM.
a. The only action required is if you are planning to use
the Buckmaster CD-ROM call book, If you are, enter the
correct "letter" designator for your CD-ROM. Be sure to
press the ENTER key.
b. Press 'ESC' to exit the screen.
2. The next screen is titled "TNC One Type".
a. Select the Correct TNC type.
Note-> If you are using an AEA TNC, be sure to select
AEA Host!
b. After moving the cursor bar to the correct TNC type
press the ENTER key
3. The next screen is "TNC One Communications Parameters"
a. Select the proper
Com Port
Baud Rate
Parity ( normally none )
Stop Bits (normally one)
b. If you are using non-standard IRQ's on your computer
be sure to configure the IRQ button at the button of the
screen. NOTE -> XPCOM is delivered with AT standard
configuration.
c. Select "Save" or "Exit" to leave this screen.
4. The next screen is TNC Two Type. XPCOM Supports operation
of two TNC's at the same time. If you are not running a
second TNC, select Not Installed.
5. Same as Step 3. Select communication parameters for TNC
TWO.
6. The next screen is the Printer Port setup.
a. Select the correct printer port and press ENTER.
b. Select "Save" or "Exit" to leave the screen.
7. Station information setup.
a. Enter you FIRST name.
b. Enter you QTH.
c. Enter your CALL SIGN.
d. Enter your AMTOR SELCAL. Example KF7XP -> "KFXP"
e. Enter your timezone (ie PST, MST, EDT etc)
f. Enter your time difference from GMT. If you are west of
GMT this is entered as a positive number. If you
are east of GMT enter the difference as a negative
number
g. Be sure to hit the enter key on the last field.
h. Press 'ESC' to exit the screen.
8. Select the desired video mode. See program documentation
on using the "Custom Video" mode. Press 'ESC' after selecting
the correct mode.
9. If you are using a transceiver interface, select the
desired radio. Note FT990 and FT1000 are not supported in
version 1.4. These will be supported in a later release of
XPCOM.
If you are using an ICOM radio be sure that you setup of the
correct Radio Address. Otherwise XPCOM will not operate the
radio correctly.
10. Configure the transceiver's communication port. If you are
using non-standard IRQ's, be sure to select the proper IRQ
for the port using the IRQ button on the menu.
11. You will now be prompted for your registration number,
if you evaluating the program simply press enter.
12. At this point the installation program should exit to your
new XPCOM directory.
13. If you are using one of the following programs, XPCOM can
import there data files.
Acuterm
ARIES-II
Lan-Link
Pc-Pacratt
HyperLog
To import, follow these steps.
a. Copy the data file from the other program into the XPCOM
directory.
b. At the DOS prompt in the XPCOM directory type
LOGCONV (enter)
c. Select the proper file conversion from the list and
press enter. Then press Y to continue or N to exit the
log conversion utility.
14. If you are currently using XPCOM 1.3 or earlier, copy
your XPLOG.DAT file from your old XPCOM directory.
a. At the DOS prompt type LOAD (enter). This will create
the new index file for XPCOM.
15. Copy any files that you normally use on the air into the
XPCOM14\UPLOAD directory.
16. Be sure to read the documentation on the program, this will
save you a lot of time.
17. The documentation has been broken down into several
separate files to facilitate printing. Refer to FILE.LST
for information on the various documentation files.
18. This completes the installation of XPCOM 1.4.
19. To start XPCOM, type XPCOM at the DOS prompt. For help
on startup options type XPCOM /?. This will provide a
list of startup options.
